Electrician — Berwick

Berwick electrician, same or next day

We're 15 minutes up the highway in Pakenham, so Berwick is core service area — not a suburb we claim and never visit. Switchboard upgrades, fault finding, EV chargers, battery retrofit, rental safety checks and commercial work. The person who quotes it is the person who does it.

Berwick housing

There are three Berwicks, electrically

Berwick isn't one housing type, and that's the thing most quotes get wrong. The age of the house tells you most of what the job is going to cost before anyone opens the board. Knowing which of the three you're in is the difference between a real quote and a number plucked out of the air.

The old village — pre-1990

Ceramic rewireable fuses, no RCD protection anywhere, and solid construction that makes running new cable slow. Lovely houses, slow electrical work, and a board that needs replacing rather than adding to.

The brick-veneer belt — 1980s to 90s

MCBs in the board but often a single shared RCD on the power circuits and nothing on lights. One faulty appliance takes out half the house, which is why people ring us about a safety switch that keeps tripping.

The estates — Timbarra, Springs, Waters

Modern boards, modern wiring, and no spare ways left. Nothing wrong with them; they're just full. Adding an EV charger or a battery is a capacity question, not a safety one.

Double-storey and ducted everything

Berwick's newer homes stack up load fast — ducted refrigerated cooling, induction, two ovens, a pool, then a car. Maximum demand is the number that decides whether you need more supply, and most people have never had it worked out.

Three-phase you didn't know you had

Some newer estate homes were built with three-phase supply. Plenty of owners have no idea. If you've got it, faster EV charging and bigger loads are available with no supply upgrade at all. We check the meter box rather than guess.

Rentals, and lots of them

Berwick carries a heavy rental load. Every Victorian rental agreement needs a two-yearly electrical safety check, whenever the tenancy started, and a great many Berwick properties have never had one.

EV charging

EV chargers in Berwick, done once

Most of Berwick's EV questions come down to one thing: will the house carry it. We answer that before quoting, not after installing.

  • Tesla Wall Connector and myenergi Zappi — we're a myenergi Product Champion, so the Zappi setup gets done properly rather than left on defaults
  • 7 kW means a 32 A dedicated circuit — not a spare way on a shared breaker, and not an outlet in the garage
  • Load management before a mains upgrade — a charger that backs off when the oven and aircon are on will often save you thousands in supply work
  • Three-phase checked, not assumed — if your estate home has it, 11 kW charging is on the table immediately
  • Solar diverting into the car if you've got panels, so daytime export charges the car instead of earning a feed-in tariff
  • Double garages and awkward runs priced on the actual route, not a flat installed price that gets revised on the day

Do the board once, for everything the house will get

The expensive way to do this is three separate visits: board now, a way for the EV charger next year, a sub-board for the battery after that. Each visit carries its own setup, its own isolation, its own paperwork.

  • RCBO per circuit, so a dead appliance doesn't black out the house
  • Circuits traced and labelled properly — not the old sticker copied across
  • Spare ways left on purpose for the charger, the battery, the shed, the aircon
  • Consumer mains assessed at the same time — a new board on tired mains is half a job
  • Surge protection where it's worth it, which with a house full of electronics usually is
  • Prescribed work independently inspected, Certificate of Electrical Safety issued

What changes the price of a switchboard upgrade

Everything else

What else we do in Berwick

Fault finding & repairs

Dead circuits, tripping RCDs, hot switches, outdoor outlets full of water, lights that flicker on one circuit only. Diagnosed properly rather than parts swapped hopefully.

Home batteries

Battery retrofit to existing solar, backup circuits on a sub-board, and a straight answer on whether a battery stacks up for your household. We're electricians, not solar salespeople.

Renovations & extensions

Rough-in and fit-off, kitchen and bathroom circuits, lighting that isn't forty downlights, outdoor power and alfresco. Berwick does a lot of renovating.

Mains & three-phase

Consumer mains upgrades, single to three-phase conversions, point of attachment work and the distributor paperwork that goes with it.

Rental safety checks

Two-yearly checks to AS/NZS 3019, record emailed the same day, tenant access arranged by us. Several Berwick properties in one run costs less per property.

Commercial

Shop and office fitouts, lighting upgrades, distribution boards, three-phase equipment and maintenance across Berwick's retail and medical precincts.

Berwick questions

How quickly can you get to Berwick?

Berwick is core service area for us. We're based in Pakenham, about 15 km east, so same or next day is normal for booked work and we can often get to a fault the same day. Ring rather than email if the power's out — the phone gets answered by the electrician.

Do you work on the older houses around Berwick Village?

Yes, and a lot of our Berwick work is exactly that. Pre-1990s houses in and around the village usually have ceramic rewireable fuses, no RCD protection at all, and solid brick or plaster that makes cable runs slower than in a modern house. We price for the access, not for the ideal version of the job.

My switchboard is full. Can you still fit an EV charger?

Usually yes. A full board is a different problem to an undersized supply. Depending on what's in there we either extend the board, add a sub-board, or fit a charger with load management so it backs off when the house is drawing hard. Load management is often what avoids a consumer mains upgrade entirely.

Does my Berwick estate home have three-phase power?

Some of the newer estates were built with three-phase supply and plenty of owners have no idea they have it. We check at the meter box rather than guess. If you do have three phases, it opens up faster EV charging and larger battery and air conditioning loads without any supply upgrade at all.

Can you add a battery to solar that someone else installed?

Yes — battery retrofit to an existing solar system is one of the main things we do. We look at your actual consumption and what the existing inverter can work with, and we'll tell you if the numbers don't stack up for your household rather than sell you one anyway.

Do you do rental safety checks for Berwick properties?

Yes. Berwick has a lot of rental stock and every residential rental agreement in Victoria needs an electrical safety check every two years, whenever the tenancy started. We do the check to AS/NZS 3019, email the compliance record the same day, and quote any repairs separately so the owner approves them on their own. Several properties in one run costs less per property.

Which parts of Berwick do you cover?

All of it. Berwick, Berwick Village, Timbarra, Berwick Springs, Berwick Waters and the Clyde North side. Beaconsfield, Officer, Narre Warren and Narre Warren South are the same run for us.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

The price is agreed before we start and the travel is in it. No separate call-out line appearing on the invoice afterwards, and no hourly meter running while we diagnose.
