An electrician who'll actually drive to Warragul
We're based in Pakenham, 35 kilometres down the M1, and Warragul and Drouin are a run we do most weeks. Switchboards, fault finding, EV chargers, shed supplies, rental safety checks and commercial work. One licensed electrician, quoted before we start, no travel line appearing on the invoice afterwards.
Warragul enquiry
Tell us what's going on. We'll come back with a price and the next date we're out that way.
No call centre. Goes straight to us.
Power out, or a circuit that won't stay on?
Ring us. We'll tell you straight whether we can get to Warragul today or whether you're better off with someone in town.
What we get called out to out there
Warragul is two different electrical problems in one town. The older streets around the centre and the north have pre-1990s wiring and boards that were never designed for a modern house. The newer estates on the fringes have modern boards with almost no spare ways left in them. They need opposite answers, and a quote that doesn't know which one you've got is a guess.
Ceramic fuses and no safety switches
Pre-1990s Warragul housing routinely still has rewireable ceramic fuses in the board. Those protect the wiring, not the person standing on a wet laundry floor. No RCD protection anywhere in the house is the single most common thing we find.
Asbestos backing sheets
Boards of that era are frequently mounted on an asbestos backing sheet. It isn't a drama, but it does mean the board gets replaced properly rather than drilled into, and it's a reason to be suspicious of any quote that didn't mention it.
Tired consumer mains
Undersized or brittle consumer mains and a point of attachment that's seen forty years of Gippsland weather. Usually surfaces the moment somebody wants to add an EV charger or a second oven.
New estates with no spare ways
Boards in the newer Warragul estates are fine — they're just full. An EV charger or a battery needs a way to live in. Sometimes that's a board extension, sometimes a sub-board, and occasionally it's load management instead of a bigger supply.
Sheds, pumps and long runs
On the rural edge — Nilma, Rokeby, Warragul South, the bigger blocks — sub-mains get sized for current and not for voltage drop, so the shed works until the welder goes on. We size it for what the shed is actually used for.
Rentals with no record on file
Warragul has a lot of rental stock, and a lot of it has never had a two-yearly electrical safety check despite the obligation applying to every Victorian rental agreement, whenever the tenancy started.
Switchboard upgrades on older Gippsland houses
A board replacement on a 1970s or 80s Warragul house is rarely just a board replacement. It's the board, a circuit schedule that's never been written down, mains that have gone brittle, and the additions a house picks up over fifty years.
- An RCBO on every circuit, not one shared RCD — so a fault takes out one circuit instead of the whole house
- A sealed enclosure rated for where it's actually mounted, which outside in Gippsland matters
- Every circuit identified and labelled — we trace them rather than copy the old sticker
- Spare ways left deliberately for the EV charger or battery you'll want in three years
- Asbestos backing handled properly where it's there, not ignored
- Prescribed work independently inspected and a Certificate of Electrical Safety issued
Out here the home charger is the charging plan
Public charging through West Gippsland is thin on the ground. In the city you can treat a home charger as a convenience; in Warragul it's the thing that makes owning the car work. Which also means getting it right first time matters more.
- Tesla Wall Connector, myenergi Zappi and the other mainstream 7 kW units
- Supply checked before we quote — a 7 kW charger is a 32 A dedicated circuit, and your mains either carry it or they don't
- Load management first — a charger that backs off when the oven's on will often save you a mains upgrade entirely
- Solar-aware charging if you've got panels, so the car soaks up the export instead of your feed-in tariff doing it
- Long cable runs priced honestly — detached garages and sheds are a different job to a charger on the meter box wall
What else we do in Warragul
Fault finding & repairs
Dead circuits, a safety switch that keeps tripping, hot or buzzing switches, outdoor outlets that have taken water. Found properly rather than replaced hopefully.
Three-phase upgrades
Workshops, machinery, ducted systems, big sheds and houses that have simply outgrown a single-phase supply. Including the point of attachment and the distributor paperwork.
Home batteries
Battery retrofit to an existing solar system, backup circuits on a sub-board, and an honest answer about whether a battery stacks up for your usage rather than a sales pitch.
Renovations & new builds
Rough-in and fit-off, lighting design that doesn't rely on forty downlights, extra circuits, outdoor power. We work with builders and owner-builders out this way.
Rental safety checks
The two-yearly check to AS/NZS 3019, the compliance record emailed the same day, repairs quoted separately. Portfolios clustered by suburb cost less per property.
Commercial & industrial
Shop and workshop fitouts, three-phase machinery and isolators, lighting upgrades, distribution boards and maintenance. Warragul's industrial and main-street businesses included.
We're not in Warragul. Here's what that means
Plenty of trades claim a service area they can't really service. We'd rather set the expectation properly, because the alternative is you waiting on someone who was never coming.
- Booked work — usually within the week. Warragul and Drouin are a regular run, not a one-off trip.
- Faults — we'll tell you on the phone. Sometimes today. Sometimes the honest answer is that a sparky in town will beat us there, and we'll say so.
- Travel is in the quote, not on the invoice. The price we agree is the price.
- Small jobs get grouped. If a job's too small to justify the drive alone, we'll offer to fit it alongside other West Gippsland work — which is cheaper for you than paying for the trip.
- Bigger jobs are where we're genuinely worth the call. Switchboards, mains, three-phase, EV, battery, fitouts — work where getting the right person matters more than getting the closest one.
Warragul questions
Do you actually come out to Warragul?
Yes. We're based in Pakenham, about 35 km down the M1, and Warragul and Drouin are a run we do most weeks. Booked work is usually within the week. For a fault or a dead circuit, ring us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can get there that day or whether you're better off with someone in town.
Is there a call-out fee to Warragul?
The travel is built into the price we quote you, and the price is agreed before we start. We don't add a surprise travel line to the invoice afterwards. If a job's too small to be worth the drive on its own we'll say so and offer to fit it in alongside other West Gippsland work, which is cheaper for you.
Can you upgrade a switchboard on an older Warragul house?
That's a large share of what we do out there. Warragul has a lot of pre-1990s housing with ceramic rewireable fuses, no RCD protection and an asbestos backing sheet behind the board. Those three things together mean the board gets replaced rather than added to, and the asbestos has to be handled properly rather than drilled into. See what changes the price.
Can you install an EV charger in Warragul?
Yes, including Tesla Wall Connector and myenergi Zappi. Public charging through West Gippsland is thin, so for a regional EV owner the home charger isn't a convenience, it's the whole charging plan. We check whether your supply and switchboard will carry it before quoting, and load management will often avoid a mains upgrade.
We're on a bigger block with a shed. Can you run power to it?
Yes. Sub-mains to sheds, workshops and pumps is common work on the rural edge of Warragul, Drouin, Nilma and Rokeby. Long runs need the cable sized for voltage drop rather than just for current, which is where underdone shed supplies usually come unstuck. We size it for what the shed will actually be used for, not for what's on the plan today.
Do you do rental electrical safety checks in Warragul?
Yes. Every residential rental agreement in Victoria needs an electrical safety check every two years, whenever the tenancy started. We do the check to AS/NZS 3019, email the compliance record the same day and quote any repairs separately so the owner can approve them on their own. Clustering several Warragul and Drouin properties into one run is cheaper per property.
Do you do commercial work in Warragul?
Yes. Shop and workshop fitouts, three-phase machinery, isolators, lighting upgrades, switchboard and distribution work, and maintenance. Small to mid-size commercial and industrial where you want the person quoting the job to be the person doing it.
Which other Gippsland towns do you cover?
Drouin, Longwarry, Buln Buln, Nilma, Rokeby, Warragul South and Neerim South get covered on the same runs. Further east than Moe, tell us what the job is and we'll be honest about whether we're the right call.
